According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Utah's population has the fourth-longest life expectancy in the nation.

Utah is home to superior research from the world's largest family history database along with clinical data regarding cancer occurrences in families.
Utah companies such as Myriad Genetics pioneer groundbreaking research in human genomics. Myriad's progress in battling hereditary diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol is unmatched anywhere. Pete Meldrum, CEO of Myriad Genetics, was named one of the nation's top 50 scientists for the year 2002. Meldrum is being honored for his work decoding disease-related genes.
Innovations in proteomics, targeted drug therapies, drug delivery systems and other advanced technologies will continue to keep Utah on the forefront of biotechnology.
